So, I've been thinking about this for a while. With "base building games", I tend to upgrade the Town Hall (or whatever it's called) and then upgrade all other buildings to stay in line with the Town Hall. I've heard on this forum that there are a lot of players who prioritize upgrading the Town Hall as soon as your level allows then upgrade the Main Dock. All other buildings are upgraded as you can, but always upgrade those two buildings asap. Right?

Anyway, I see the value of adding 1 more ship to my active fleet. But, it's always my next lowest ship. Definitely way below my average cargo/ship ability. At my level, I'm grinding the event destinations for materials. I don't have the 1 hour regular destinations upgraded to compete with the resources per hour I get from event materials. Not even close. So, my most limiting factor is my warehouse capacity. I can usually come close to double my warehouse capacity with just two ships plus the event captains each hour. I use all the other ships to empty the warehouses, but generally I don't need them all to do this. I send a few on the event contractor or do my best to keep upgrading Gulf, Cave or Blacksmith. Whatever I have left over each hour.
In my case, wouldn't I be able to grind much more per hour if I prioritized upgrading TH and Warehouses instead of TH and Main Dock? If I could get a 3rd or 4th ship included in my hourly runs to the event destinations, I might be able to use all my other ships to empty the warehouses. But, one more small ship from the main dock is just one more ship I'd send to Gulf.

Am I missing anything or do you agree with my logic? Thanks!
