I agree that by and large, it's usually best to go for crew ships with these, but I think right now I still have more need for another large cargo ship.
Don't global crew requests generally stay under 25k? I have 5000 +5000 +3000 +2500 +2500 +2100 +2000 +2000 +800 +550 +500 +400. If I sum the smallest 7 (all 1 anchor) that's 8350 sailors, slightly better than the 8250 this new Rudolph ship could carry with all crew upgrades for the same 7 dock slots.
I've been working my housing and it's now graduated from uranium to batteries at least, but still only generates 1880 crew per hour per unit, so 11,280/ hour total. Honestly, I've never understood the housing math as it seems to really generate more like twice that. I will often do the global crew contracts in two trips when I also need to be filling contracts for an event contractor, but the limiting factor is total crew used, not the ships to carry them.
OTOH, I could buy a cargo ship this big with gems and at over 8000 crew, this is an exploration ship I could probably use the rest of my player life.
Decisions, decisions. I'm still staring at the first decision point.
