The event is available for players from level 20 and higher and lasts
from 27th September until 1st November at 09:00 CET. (EDITED)

Help beautiful Mina Murray search for her lost fianceé Jonathan Harker. You will be rewarded with a new token ship Demeter which you can upgrade 9x times, either with Capacity tokens from Van Helsing or Crew tokens from Dracula.

Reset contractor Ben

After completing the last task from Jonathan Harker, Uncle Ben will appear with the 3 last contracts, and after you complete them, you will receive Finisher Trophy and all event contractors will start from the beginning but with higher difficulty in the following order:

Mina → Jonathan → Van Helsing (all tasks and without any crossroads) → and lastly Dracula

Van Helsing and Dracula will not provide with tokens this time, but Dracula will give you his Signet Rings and Van Helsing his Garlic . Both these event materials you can trade it in the Market town for gems or other useful materials.

But please bear in mind, after contractor reset Mina will not provide you with the second ship Demeter and you won't be able to change the upgrades you have chosen. So please choose wisely.

I always enjoy the ship upgrading events!

For newer players who have never done one of these, here are some tips.

We can do 9 upgrades total, not 9 for cargo and 9 for crew. Each time we upgrade one feature, we will see the possible maximum for the other feature drop. For example, at player level 200, the ship starts with potential for these maximums: Crew 800, Cargo 870. If you use an upgrade for crew, the max possible Cargo total will drop to 720, because now you can do only do 8 cargo upgrades.
It is usually best to decide up front whether you want to make it an exploration vessel (upgrading only crew) or a cargo ship (upgrading only cargo). Choosing some of each usually results in a pretty mediocre addition to your fleet. One exception: players whose ship crew start level is less than 190 might want to upgrade crew enough to be able to use it at most ports. I think experienced players will argue both ways on that one. You decide for yourself if the crew increase costs too much cargo or maybe you already have enough other ships to handle those ports. Personally, I would do it only if one crew upgrade was enough to get it there.)
If we don't complete all 9 upgrades during the event, there is no way to finish the upgrades later. There are no chevron upgrades for the 10 star ships. (Yes, there was one event where PF did provide an upgrade option later, when there had been technical problems during the event that prevented some people from playing, but don't count on it.)

(Tip: you might want to also check the numbers for a level above your current level to see if you could get a better ship by upgrading before finishing Mina's first set of contracts. That has usually been the trigger that fixes which version of the ship we get in these upgrade events.)

No need to edit your player level.

I'm going all cargo. At that, it will end up my second smallest 6 slot ship, but I still think I'd find it more useful. I already have an exploration fleet that can eat sailors about as fast as I can make them, with 5000, 5000, and 3000 crew ships heading the fleet. Besides, I kind of gag at the prospect of a six anchor exploration ship. Four anchors is bad enough.

Thinking back, though, I wish I had used the events early in my game play to build these as expedition ships. All in all, the game gives us a lot fewer opportunities to get a good exploration ship.

Yep, that's my itchy point, too.
But in two months (don't pin me down on that, though) 7slots will be introduced, and 6slots will become kinda obsolete, too.
I'd rather swap in a 6slot explorer once in a while then have a useless 6slot hauler sitting in my drydock for good.

There are two possible ways to get exploration ships in the game:
1) Buy a new one for the real money (rare offer)
2) Grab one during events like this.

So, don't miss very rare (twice per year, at most) opportunity to get totally free exploration ship, 6-slots or not.

Spoiler: during globals the current "sailor delivery" cap is around 32k. So if your exploration fleet couldn't deliver that amount in one go - you need to work on getting more exploration ships. You may not be that high level yet, but one day you will be. And you WILL regret deeply you didn't thought about getting more exploration ships early on.

I was curious what fate had befallen my earlier 10-star ships and found only one in my museum - another Demeter! I wish the museum let us see the numbers. I found one other in my reserve fleet, but all the others still seem to be in use. One of these (Rudolph) is probably really an obsolete size for me (285 crew, 750 cargo, 3 slots) but it is perfect for fetching cement and oil from those ports. It gets enough for 3 factory loads but not so much the cargo uses too much storage. I probably should park it in between uses and get out something else, but I'm too lazy.

When I was a lower level we had an event with this same format and that ship ended up in my museum too. No matter if I went crew or capacity with that ship, it was going to be useless so quickly. I upgraded it and it now sits in my museum.

No, I meant the various 10 star ships I've gotten from events like this over the years I've been playing. I was curious how bad my earlier choices had been over how to use the upgrades.

Yes, my Rudolph looks like that, all decorated with its Christmas lights. Mine wouldn't have been anywhere near large, though, regardless what I upgraded. You must have been a much higher player level than I was back then (and still are).

I'm not even level 70 yet so the Demeter will be a long range (all crew) ship. I still need to find Dracula next.

(UPDATE: Found the bloodsucker and am working on Dracula III now. 😄)

I completed the last task from Johnatan Harker, but did not finish upgrading the Demeter. Now I am no longer getting neither Van Helsing nor Dracula. So, this is it? I won't be able to finish the Demeter? I was planning to go full cargo and no crew, but now my cargo is hanging at 720.

You did not need to complete Harker. I haven't even done even one of his tasks but I have a fully upgraded Demeter.

You only needed to complete Nina to get Demeter. Then you should have followed the routes toward the "Crossroads" where you choose between Van Helsing or Dracula. This allows you to upgrade 9 times

I fear you might have left it too late to achieve your goal. Look to see if you have an exploration balloon to find the first crossroads.

To be honest, I couldn't be bothered.

In respect of the original question, the OP got deceived into completing Harker, instead of focussing on Van Helsing & Dracula. It's the way it was worded at the very beginning i.e.

It wrongly suggests that you need to complete Harker too.

Which is why they are having difficulty in fully upgrading Demeter.
Doing Harker was not necessary to get a fully upgraded ship.

In respect of event completion, it depends on what your final aim is/was. If you feel that the ultimate completion of the event was your prime directive, then that's the way to go. Nothing wrong with that.
I concentrated on the Global instead. ( I'm currently at Task 250 and still going )
With a Gem per task, plus others along the way, the end reward in my personal opinion, was of much greater value than was obtained from Harker.

Two events in a row now, I feel a sense of dissatisfaction and weariness when the final contractor/task of the event is completed and the following acknowledgment is given;

"Great job! We are at the end, and this is your ultimate final reward. Now, will you return to the beginning, or close this event forever?"

It doesn't seem appropriate to just start doing it all over again.
Granted it does provide a choice, so each to their own of course!

I'm sure this is an attempt by PF to provide entertainment for anybody who feels the event is too short, but I agree, it feels weird. I have three contractor on my screen now to ignore while I do the global contracts.

OTOH, I seem to have a second permanent contractor again (Sumati Morarjee). Mine were going single file for quite a long time. I can't wait for Global to end so I can start working her contracts more regularly. Global always goes on a couple days too many for me.

In all my games now, I yearn for more idle times for self-directed play. Developers are dragging their games down with these godawful passes, and nonstop events, and daily, weekly, seasonal, whatever tasks. The saddest thing is so many players seem incapable of actually playing anymore but instead are looking for the developers to tell them what to do. Games were so much more fun to play before the mobile developers got hold of them.
