[unknown] Just to make it clear, I am not in general against additions to the game, I am just not fine with those done badly. If I need 80% playing time, need to login every hour to change the jobs, use more than 2/3 of my warehouses, do pointless and unrewarding tasks which I would never do if they wouldn't be needed and get huge amounts of unwanted XP on top and I do this not to earn 80% of the materials I need this week and a few gems on top, but I get just 2 captains and very few gems, things have gone very wrong.
The job bored replaced the captain's tasklist which was simple and limited to just 3 jobs per day, but it had one big advantage above the job bored, most things you needed to do were tasks which you would do anyway at least every couple of days, so you sometimes ended up in doing something earlier, but you never played totally against your usual daily gameplay. It was a side activity fitting into the flow of the game very well. The tasks were even more creative, not just sending materials, commodities or products, they even included tasks like "Travel to Small Town 5 times". The captain's tasklist was simple and clear, it was easy to understand for everyone including beginners and the only XP you got were from the travels itself.
Everytime I see a beginner posting here that he is "flying up the levels with the cool job bored" and where he could get a certain item (usually not even yet available for his level), I know Seaport has one additional player soon who will have destroyed his account's balance between game level and quality of his fleet and will get stucked because he will reach levels for which his ships aren't good enough for anymore and he will no longer be able to do anything in acceptable time. Since we usually never hear of those players again after an initial couple of very active messages, I assume most of those get frustrated about the development of their game and silently quit.
So the question is, is a "side activity" which sometimes at least gives something to do for those who are bored from the regular gameplay and gives a few rewards although they are ridicolous compared to what you can get if you invest the time somewhere else in the game, worth to make the game frustrating for most players, especially including new players? I don't think so. If a "side activity" does not even deserve the name itself, it is awfully misdesigned.
And that's why I am not willing to accept another game in game "side activity" which is connected to the job bored for those who don't want to pay with money or gems for a "side activity" as long as it has that many issues that there are lots of reasons for most players to consider not even playing the job bored. The time used to add the expeditions would have been badly needed to rework and rebalance the job bored before the faulty job bored even is made more important.
And of course I know games in games can even be fun. I remember very well another game I played which added a kind of tower defense game in game one day which you could play 3 times per day to earn extra rewards for the game itself. The tower defense mini game finally destroyed the whole game, but not because it was bad, it happened because it was really good. The tower defense mini game reminded most of the players how much fun a quick and easy to learn game can be while everyone felt caught in a game which became boring and repetitive because most of the time was just wasted to earn resources and to buy something after many hours, sometimes days of play. At the end the forum discussions clearly showed that most of the players quitted the game and had more fun then by just installing a tower defense game which they could play more often than three times a day. Companies offering a game should never underestimate how important it is to keep the game itself interesting and that adding games in games instead can be very counterproductive... 😉
