Yes, old shop events are a good source for materials.
If you want to check the materials for events, you can do so on the wiki pages for them.
Personally, I google „Diggy name of event“ and then go for the fandom page.
Like „Diggy snow white“ leads you here

and you can see that it gives 2088 lumber in total.
And lumber in events is a bit cheaper, 10 instead of 12.
Please always also check the energy requirements there before buying a shop event, to see if you can manage it.
And of course, the free events are even better, as they don’t cost gems 😄
But I wouldn’t spend gems on refreshing mines, rather spend them on shop events.
Depends on the situation in the game of course.
