Here is some information from a pixel community manager, in answer to a collection of similar threads like yours that I reported to them:
Pixel confirms that there has been released an updated version of the app (Google Play Store as well as App Store). In such a situation players sometimes don't notice that they need to update the app and the game crash or doesn't load, etc. Please check the Store whether the app needs to be updated or completely reinstall the app in order to be sure to have the latest update.
