It puts in a few extra tiles to clear.
It is inconsistent though. There are a lot of alien eggs in the game that you just walk by. So mostly you need to avoid the ones near the detonators.
FYI, in Station Depths, roll the 3 gray boulders onto the 3 light colored stones for a nice bonus😉
