The automatic generating of energy is influenced by the buildings you place under your camp.
The camp is filled with debris , and each space needs to be dug out. You can dig each space with materials or gems.
It is also very important to check what height the current space is, which you are digging out.
There are 3 categories of items according to height:

2,3,4 square heights. These different heights of spaces provide a possibility to place higher items. You can place 2 or 3 sq.height items in the 4 sq.spaces, but a 4 sq.spaced item cannot be placed in a smaller one.
The height of the row increases each 2 rows reaching a maximum of 4 sq. height.
There are also 3 categories of items according to width:

1,2 and 3 square width items. If a item has a statistical value of 50 regeneration, but has 2 spaces in width, each space will have a regeneration speed of 25 regeneration as seen in the picture.
If you have 2 items with 50 regeneration each, and each would be only 1 square wide it would be more profitable for you to place them instead.
The goal is to have each camp space optimally filled with items of the highest value, to reach optimal regeneration times.
As you could see in the pictures there is also another statistic differentiating the items (the green and blue symbols).

Blue items are called capacity items , they increase your total amount of energy.
The energy bar consists of your current energy level / capacity.
You can have more energy than capacity, but it won´t regenerate until reaching an amount lower than your capacity.
Green items are called regeneration items, they increase the speed of the restoration of energy (until the maximum capacity is reached).
The mechanics of placing and storing buildings :
You can place a building into your camp through the inventory , select the building of your choice, and place it in any space available and confirm the new position.
