I had lots when I went to sleep, I woke up and now I have only a few.

Does anyone know why the kids seem to disappear after a while? Are they only around for a fixed amount of time?

they are only around for for a certain amount of clicks/or a certain amount of days

keep digging and you will find more.... or send out invites via the invite tab on your game... every friend that accepts and finishes the tutorial, you get a gods child

Mine seem to fluctuate in number. I haven't picked up any godlings in 16 dungeons, but everyonce in a while I'll go from 2 to as many as 6, then down to 3, and all over the place.
